Really Ugly

What is the deal with these reality shows that try to prove women are vain and shallow lookists? It's as if this is a problem with women, as if men are totally innocent of this.

On “The Average Joe” we were supposed to feel bad for these men who obviously had a snowball’s chance in hell of getting hooked up with a beautiful woman. They moaned and they whined about their pitiful plight. We could not believe that men so obviously “nice” and “smart” could be overlooked simply because they were not hunks.

Please! These men’s only problem was their own attitude. They desired a date with the beautiful girl and felt it was not fair they could not get her. What’s not fair? I’m sure they constantly reject girls of their own ilk! That is, none of them would ever hook up with a nice, intelligent woman if she were fat or not pretty.

It’s the same with Ashton Kutcher’s “social experiment” otherwise known as “Beauty and the Geek”. I started to watch the first episode last night only to become seriously disgusted with the male nerds featured on the show. The experiment is to see if the geeks can help the beautiful but mentally challenged (not in a special ed sort of way) women be a little less filled with air and they in turn are to help the nerds get social skills so that one day they can confidently pick up women.

So when we are shown these men for the first time, they each have something to say and I’ll be darned if they didn’t go on and on about “never getting laid” and such. This is supposed to be the less shallow bunch! Sure, the women are all flash and no substance but at least they’re up front about it. These men might be happily hooked up by now if they weren’t sitting around lamenting not being able to date a Playboy bunny. (One geek mentioned giving up on CREATING the “perfect female” with his computer skills. He needs to stop watching “Weird Science” and porn!) I bet there are a lot of female nerds out there without a partner who would love to be with them.

The truth is, we know what’s going to happen. The show has wrapped up already, and in one scene we hear an emotional woman saying that it’s sad these men are not given a chance because they are some of the “greatest guys” she’s ever met. This tends to happen as women really are not concerned so much with looks. Turn it around and you will see that there would be no show, unless we want to watch a train wreck in which fat and plain women are outright rejected.

Don’t believe me? On the first “Average Joe” they had an experiment of their own. They had the very girl these men were vying for dress in a fat suit and pretend to be her best friend and cousin. Then they secretly taped what the men had to say about her. It was very revealing! They were merciless.

I don’t know how the nerds on this show will fare but it isn’t a dating show. They are not there to score one of the beauties. But chances are they just might.

reality shows all suck. Except for "Survivor" even though that's also kind of played.

Yea I would have to say that generalities are never good. However, I do think that a whole lot of women are materialistic. Men are too, but a lot of women won't date guys unless they are driving a fancy car or they know they can get some security out of the relationship. That is why geeks, shut ins and the average joes of the world don't get to date "hot" chicks, instead choosing to idolize the Jerri Ryans of the world. Not saying it's right, but that's the way it is.

That doesn't make sense! Most geeks make good money because they have the smarts to make it. Look at freaking Bill Gates! And if you're a WEIRDO, then it's not your lack of wheels or cash that can't get you a date, it's your WEIRDNESS. Plus, as I've said, if you idolize "hot" women, then perhaps you are passing up dates with good, nice, albeit not-so-hot girls. SO STOP WHINING!!!!!

Well that's excatly my point. Bill Gates has money so women will want him for that. The average Joes does not. Looks are a big part too. Yes many average looking women may be passed on for a reason as shallow as looks, but most people in society are lookists, and most people are shallow including women, maybe men are just more honest about it. I would not turn down someone just because of looks, but then again most women won't look at you twice unless you're a hunk like Brad Pitt or whoever is considered a hunk these days. So how are all these average people getting together then. Well, to quote Seinfeld, "alcohol."
