New Addition
I really want another cat. That is, I want a female cat. The night I brought Julie in the house to stay for the first time (right after the tragic death of Mikey), I was so excited! I told "her" it was going to be "us girls" and I lit a scented candle and burned lavender oil and turned on my pretty Japanese lamps. I put on "her" new pink collar and I was so happy with my new pet.
Well, as you know, when I took Julie to be "spayed" the vet called and said, "Surprise! Julie's a boy! That's right, you'll need to take that pink collar off him. I guess you couldn't tell what he was with all that hair back there." So I went out and bought him a new black studly collar and renamed him MR. JULIE. I know. Big change, right? Well, I was used to the name and so was he! I love Mr. Julie very much and I'm very happy with him. He's the cat I always wanted- he's sweet and a lap cat like Mikey but without being as nutty and clingy as Mikey. And he's aloof like a cat ought to be but not as detached as Hermes was. I love Hermes forever but he had such trust issues! (pictured: Mr. Julie a year ago) I recently read an article about cats and the pictures were so gorgeous! One cat had the same face as Julie but he was white and short-haired. One cat who was pictured on the toilet was all-black and his tag read "Panther". It's funny because I always wanted a black cat. If I had a black queen I'd name her Eclipsis. I've named Mr. Julie's girlfriend Hyppolita after Wonder Woman's mother, the Amazon queen. But she hasn't been around. I think Mr. Julie's through with her. I also love Russian Blue cats and I almost got one years ago. He came over to the front step and was a full-grown cat and I fed him but he never came back! That's unusual for a cat so either he got run over or he didn't like the cheap cat food I gave him.
It's very hard to find a female cat the way I found my other cats but I've learned most tri-colored cats are female, the colors coming from the x chromosome. So I guess I just have to look for a calico. I mean, one more cat doesn't make any difference, as I learned during that brief time I had both Hermes and Mikey (and Julie was outside!) because they don't even stay indoors half the time. The key is to get one before Mr. Julie is too old as he won't like having a new cat around. Hermes was way too mature when I brought in Mikey and was cosequently resentful and took to going outside and staying there more and more, which I felt terribly guilty about when he died. I can't make that mistake twice. So it's decision time, I guess. Right now the chances are slim because I'm not going out looking for a cat and unless one "shows up" like Mikey and Julie did, I doubt I'll have that second cat after all. (pictured: a Calico named June-Bug. Very cute!) I guess it'll have to be just Julie and me (pictured up top)

I was not really a cat person then I got Norah and now she's just so wonderful and precious. I think having another cat is no big deal but by dogsitting for another dog this week, I know I am not ready for that.

That's only 'cause Parker's not your style. Either that or it's because it's TERRIBLY HARD to take care of dogs. Unless you're blind and it's a seeing-eye dog, they're pretty much totally dependent on you for everything. Still, they're cool.

That calico is a cutie. I love cats, but I can't imagine having one until my dogs are old. My last cat, who went to live and die with grandma when I went away to school, was a tortoise shelled kitty named Tutie. Like calicos, she had black, orange, and white fur.

Yes I think the Tortoise cats are also usually female...
