Beware the "Experts"
Ok, what's the deal? First, I take Rafael's crazy personality quiz and it rates me very low as far as intellect and they didn't even have any questions to test my intellect! It was obviously solely based on the fact that as far as religion was concerned, I answered "Yes" to a belief in God and "Yes" to the questions about putting my religious belief system as the most important thing in my life.
Another annoying thing is that in a debate about whether college professors are "too liberal" I saw on TV, someone said that Christians are simply not good enough to be in institutions of higher learning. Uh, WHAT? I couldn't believe the prejudice, the arrogance!
Finally, I must point out something I have pointed out before (but was probably NOT READ as my dearly beloved blog audience rarely pays any attention to what may be considered my rants about religion)--and that is that you must read the Bible yourself. Don't take your college professor's word for it as to what the Bible really says. I have been duped myself. That is, I got an A in a Philosophy of Religion class, for example, because I dutifully studied what the professor wanted and regurgitated his notes back to him on tests. Well, a few months later I was a Christian and was ASTOUNDED as to all the lies this guy taught. He said slanderous untrue things about the apostle Paul.
Speaking of Paul, one great illustration that blew me away was given by a minister at my church and he wasn't even TALKING about that subject, it was just an anecdote. He stated that when he was 20 and had just become a Christian, he was in class and he said that his professor, who was a New Testament Scholar, made a comment about Paul being very vague all the time. So he got up and flipped over to a Scripture in the Bible which stated in no uncertain terms what types of things are considered sin. It's a really strong Scripture. The reaction of his professor was amazement and she asked him, "How did you do that?" He asked, "How did I do what?" and she said, "How did you just flip over to the Scripture you wanted just like that?" He was like, WHAT? She's amazed that I know where the Scriptures are??? I was shocked too, hearing this, especially because I know exactly where to find Scriptures too, and I have read the whole Bible and continue to re-read it all the time, learning more and more. It's taught me a lot, not the least thing being that the so-called experts are mostly impostors and frauds and I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them. If someone who can make a false statement about Paul like that can get a job teaching religion and have the title of "New Testament Scholar", that is a sad, sad day. They should take their agenda of discrediting the Bible to a debate and not teach lies as facts in order to spread the hatred and prejudice against all things Christian. Peace out.

I had a few professors at UCLA that were Christians. I even took a Jesus of Nazareth class with one. He was a really good professor and he really knew his stuff and was able to be objective about it without seeming preachy. Also, I think people connect Christianity to things such as intelligent design and I think that's where they don't think Christians can be scholars when they can dismiss such facts of evolution. I just finished reading The Name of the Rose recently and it shows how the Church was the primary place back then where scholarly research was done. Anyways, I think you can be a good theologian if you're Christian or not.

Are you trying to say that Dr. Geoffrey Ross, with his Masters degree and his elbow patches on his jacket and his black Camero to cruise the sunset strip and the Coconut Teaszer on a saturday night was lying to you??
