It's a little early, but....
It’s the most wonderful time of the year….no, not fall per se (I’m more of a summertime girl) but HALLOWEEN! I know, it’s not even October yet but who cares! Here at the office we have already decorated to the nines. There are cute straw witches in black, orange and purple garb that you’d never know were only 99 cents and a cute store-bought vertical banner that states with ghosts, goblins and more witches. We have spider webs and a huge spider as well as little baby ones. I personally got some construction paper and made a cute poster of a Halloween bag, a modern sexy witch and an old-fashioned hag flying in front of the moon. There are ghosts pasted all over and tombs. My personal board is orange with Halloween designed cellophane over it and a pumpkin border. Finally, there are skull streamers and also I drew and colored in magic marker a few index cards with cute designs like a Halloween balloon, a dapper bat, a coffin with a monster inside, a vampire’s face with bat wings, a trick-or-treater dressed as a skeleton and a green alien face.
Last year we had door a decorating contest and I was “commissioned” to do the sample door. I’m very disappointed that my boss chose his door for this because he keeps his door open at all times and most visitors to the office did not even see it. It was cool because it was done on this slick paper that made it hard to draw on but I drew a large gnarly tree in the middle of the graveyard and used charcoal to fill in the black night and then with an eraser drew ghosts. There was a monster’s hand coming out of the ground and I used apple green, emerald green, bright green, yellow and brown to fill in the grass and the ground blade by blade. I was very proud of it- but it got thrown away! I had wanted to roll it up and save it for this year but oh well. Last year I also did another construction paper drawing like the witches and Halloween bag of this year but it was of a haunted house and quite elaborate.
I’m still not sure what to be this year. For the last four years now I have been this alien girl- it’s always green makeup, cute “alien eyes” glasses, a pink wig and a headband with ball antennae. The only thing to change is the outfit. One year it was plastic, the next leather, and last year I wore a gown I had to buy for a wedding. I was a bridesmaid in forest green- ick! The bride said, “I’ll get something you can wear again” but her husband ruined her plans by deciding all the men would wear kilts from his clan (what clan?) and the tartan was green and blue. So we had forest green dresses. And I never wore it again- just for Halloween last year! This year I might go more funky. I love the alien girl outfit because we have a high turnover of kids (AND staff) so a lot of people have not seen it yet, so who cares? As for Halloween night, I used to love a good party or parade but now I love staying home and passing out candies to the kiddies- especially the teens who don’t even wear costumes. Most of them are goth, punk or metal anyway so it’s Halloween all year round. Cool.

Decorative, Halloween spider webs to hang around the house or office remind me of a onetime sassy former roommnate of mine who said: "Anyway!!! Why ya puttin' dose up? We've real ones all over the damn house!"
