Stupid Silly Stuff
Currently I’m reading Carole Matthews’ book “Bare Necessity”. So far it’s very breezy and fun, like Bridget Jones. I must say I prefer this right now to anything deep or intense. Even though Jane Green figures under Chick Lit with her runaway hits “Jemima J” (about a fat girl) and “Mr. Maybe”, she really does not fit the mold. I just read “Bookends” and it was quite a regular novel as opposed to typical chick lit fare. So was “The Dirty Girls Social Club” by Cuban author Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez.
I should have known Matthews would be pure escapist fun as she dedicated the book to Kelly Ripa and all “Reading With Ripa” fans “for making 2002 such a fun year for me”. I guess Ripa gave her book “For Better, For Worse” glowing reviews.
It’s just that right now things are tense family-wise, plus I’m dealing with some heartache of my own and so I can’t really deal with downers. In fact, I had to take a natural herbal anti-depressant just now. It worked right away because even considering the situation, I am doing pretty well so to take an anti-depressant when you’re doing pretty well just means…instant buzz!
It got me so hyped up and happy I decided to do something silly. I got our plaque that hangs on the office wall and features our current staff-of-the-term. It has a place for a picture and the person’s name gets engraved along with the term they got chosen for the honor. Well, I enlarged the ID photo of a man who got hired as a teacher but quit after his first day and did a cardboard “engraving” with his name and the one and only day he worked as his “term”. No one has noticed as of yet except Frances, who saw me do it.
I know this is all very silly but it’s either that or give into one of my dark gloomy moods in which I usually end up doing something like cutting myself. I prefer this. But like I said, I am doing remarkably well and I think it’s my friends’ prayers. Powerful stuff!

No! Dan worked with us for almost a year and (unfortunately) was let go, he didn't just quit after one day! Plus, that was five years ago so who would know him? That would not be funny! No, this guy worked on September 6th and quit after the workday was over. He couldn't handle things.
