...And Justice for All

People who follow true crime like me were well aware of the horrible sex tape featuring a little girl that suddenly exploded all over the news today. Thankfully, the girl is with her mother now and fine and the tape appears to have been about four years old. Still, when this item first surfaced I was struck with how this tiny figure in leopard-spotted pijamas could have wound up in the hands of this monster.

It caused me a lot of pain and I can't erase it now. Worst of all, I don't understand why the death penalty is considered barbaric. My father said this is the kind of crime that he would like to see receive justice of the so-called "uncivilized" variety. Me too! I know it's predictibly conservative to believe in capital punishment but actually, I was against it when I first became a Christian and believed all life should be valued especially because of my beliefs. And I didn't change my mind about it through preaching at my church or something. I mean, it's never talked about. Ever. But it happened in actuality of all things because of becoming a reader of true crime. That in itself was surprising- I'm pretty queasy about violence and horror and don't like slasher films nor do I read dark/horror books like Stephen King's. They depress me. But I did read books by a former FBI profiler (John Douglas) who through his writing convinced me that certain criminals (the worst kind) are manipulative, remorseless sociopaths and deserve death. He convinced the actor who played a similar profiler on "Silence of the Lambs" (based on Douglas) by playing the audiotape of women being raped and tortured which two serial-killing partners had made. That was all it took.

Those opposed see it as barbaric and in one documentary I saw a defense attorney talked about watching his client die in the gas chamber and considered it cruel and unusual because the guy wouldn't die and his ordeal took endless minutes. Well, you might feel sorry for him like I did at first but then the narrator goes on to mention the guy was being punished for the rape (/murder?) of a three-year-old girl! And today that is what we have seen all over the news: the still shots from a video of a man raping a three-year-old girl. To me, that guy's client died like a roach sprayed with RAID and that is what he deserved at the very least.

And for those who consider it weird that people against abortion and euthenasia can be for capital punishment, I really don't see how vacuuming an innocent baby from its mother's womb or starving to death a defenseless hospital patient can compare to ridding society of scum like that....that....vermin who stole the childhood from this precious little princess! I feel very sad about this case, very sad and very enraged and I want him caught. And oh, by the way- he won't die. This took place in Nevada. He's free to leech off society now for decades and decades.

I disagree with your stance on abortion and euthenasia but I pretty much support your ideas on capital punishment. Though I personally don't think I can be the one that pushes the button or give the final shot though I bet a lot of the victims' family members will pay for that chance.

I'm sure they would as a lot of grieving families have often taken the vigilante route.

But I gotta tell you something that will make me sound schizophrenic- I am VERY TOUCHED whenever a family member of a murder victim forgives the killer. It takes A LOT to do that. And that is ultimately what we should strive for in our hearts. BUT as a society, even if the family FORGIVES the killer- there needs to be something done about removing the threat permanently from society.

There are some crimes out there that I feel are unforgiveable, and the sexual exploitation of minors is one of them...
